Parent Teacher Fellowship

What does regular parent-teacher communication teach our children?

We model working together to set goals and develop plans to meet those goals.
We demonstrate healthy communication. They learn how to communicate good news and bad news as they watch us interact on their behalf.
We reinforce through collective, positive praise your child's growth and mastery of grade level expectations.
We show them how to resolve misunderstanding or disagreements in a healthy, Godly way.
We model positive problem-solving methods. Problems or failures are opportunities to watch God work as we pray and work to change a weakness into a strength.
What do our teachers do to promote regular parent-teacher communication?
- Weekly Thursday newsletter describing specific information (spelling list, Bible verse, homework, special projects).
- Mid-quarter progress report.
- Classroom behavior report sent home if student is struggling.
- Student of the week awards and special student week.
- Graded papers and test results sent home regularly.
- Mid-term conference as requested by a parent.
What can parents can do to promote good parent-teacher communication?
- Communication regarding your child's school progress:
  - Review Thursday folders consistently checking papers, teacher and school newsletters.
  - Call (voicemail) or email the teacher if you have a question or a concern.
  - Request a conference if there is a concern.
  - If daily communication is needed, request a daily home-school log to be set up.
- Communication regarding school or classroom policies or program:
  - In the case of a 'praise', drop a note, email or voicemail. Positive feedback
    encourages the teacher.
  - In the case of a 'concern', communicate directly to the teacher by phone, email or conference. Teachers welcome the direct communication of any concerns.
  - If you cannot reach a resolution by going to the teacher first, then bring your concern to the principal or vice-principal by setting up a meeting.
  - And as a final step, parents may appeal to the School Board Committee.
Fill out the quarterly parent survey. We seek parent feedback and the information is carefully reviewed in a confidential manner.
